GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Artists from around the world compete for the world’s largest art prize beginning on Wednesday in the fifth annual ArtPrize competition.

If you’re unfamiliar with ArtPrize, here’s how it works:  artists compete for $560,000 in total prize money, the vast majority of which is decided by you, the voters.  The artist who gets the most public votes will win $200,000.  Second place gets $75,000.  Third receives $50,000.  Fourth – Tenth each get $5,000.

With more than 1,500 entries this year, art fans certainly have plenty to see throughout downtown Grand Rapids. And the competition generates national and international attention for Grand Rapids, as in this Wall Street Journal article this week.

FOX 17 Morning News has live team coverage of the kick-off to ArtPrize 2013 on all newscasts, plus a studio at Bridgewater Place, which will feature live music and refreshments during our evening newscasts.
