KENTWOOD, Mich. — A 76-year-old woman pleaded no contest to running over a woman trying to help at the scene of an accident May 30.

Gloria Van Putten could spend up to one year in prison for the misdemeanor charge after running over 50-year-old Margaret Pittman.  Pittman was killed after trying to grab the driver side door handle of Van Putten’s car.   She then accelerated and ran over Pittman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The initial accident happened when Van Putten pulled out of her East Paris Avenue driveway and was struck by another vehicle driven by a 31-year-old man.
