PORT SHELDON TOWNSHIP,Mich. — According to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s department a mechanical issue caused a 36-foot power boat to slam into a smaller 17-foot boat on September 1 in Lake Michigan. Deputies were called out to Lake Michigan just south of Port Sheldon Piere around 6pm. According to reports the driver of the powerboat said he experienced a mechanical issue and turned around to look at the engine compartment, a 17-foot Starcraft was anchored in front of him. The driver said due to the mechanical issue he could not turn and hit the Starcraft. 58-year old Barbara Romoie from Grand Haven was a passenger in the Starcraft and was thrown from the boat. Ramoie suffered minor head injuries and was taken to North Ottawa Community Hospital where she is listen in good condition.
