GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — One of the biggest football stars in recent Grand Rapids Christian history is fighting for his life after a shooting early Sunday morning on the city’s southeast side.
Andre Davis, 21, is in critical condition at Butterworth Hospital. Police say he was shot while riding in a car near South Division Ave. and Wealthy Street around 3:30 a.m.
People who have visited Davis at the hospital on Sunday tell FOX 17 that he was shot in the back of the head and is now brain-dead.
Davis , a 6’1″, 265-pound fullback from the class of 2011, was an all-state honoree his senior season for the Eagles.
He spent the past year playing for the College of the Canyons in Valencia, California. He scored five touchdowns in five games, including the winning score in his first game of the season.
Friends says Davis was planning to move to Ypsilanti on Monday to play football at Eastern Michigan.
Friends and family are using “#PrayForDre” on Twitter this evening to support Davis.
