DANBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A moped rider has been taken to the hospital with critical injuries, after police say he wrecked his moped in a crash that may have involved alcohol.
According to the Michigan State Police, a 51-year-old man was riding his moped in the area of Kent Street near Market Street in Ionia County’s Danby Township late Wednesday night. Troopers learned that the rider had lost control of his moped and crashed. While he was lying on his back in the road, the victim may have been struck by another vehicle. The 19-year-old driver of that car saw the victim in the road and attempted to stop before striking him, but it’s not clear if the attempt was successful.
The moped rider was taken to the hospital and is currently listed in critical condition. He was not wearing a helmet, and troopers believe alcohol was a factor in this crash.
