Head-On Crash Sends A Police Officer To The Hospital

KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, Mich- A Kalamazoo Township Police Officer is recovering after a head-on crash last Saturday night in Kalamazoo Township. The crash happen on E. Main Street near Chicago Avenue around 10:00 p.m. Saturday night according to the Kalamazoo Township Police Department.

According to Chief Tim Bourgeois of the Kalamazoo Township Police Department, Officer Michael Vasilovski was traveling southwest on E. Main in a marked Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor patrol car.  A vehicle traveling in the opposite direction on E. Main struck the curb and then crossed the center-line and striking the cruiser in the left front corner, causing damage to the patrol vehicle.

Officer Vasilovski was wearing his seatbelt and his airbag deployed.  He was treated for minor injuries at Bronson Methodist Hospital and released. The other driver, a 61-year-old male, was taken to Borgess Medical Center for treatment.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety per the policy of Kalamazoo Township Police Department.
