KENTWOOD, Mich. — A 76-year-old woman will be charged with a midemeanor after allegedly running over a woman trying to help at the scene of an accident May 30.
Gloria VanPutten could spend up to one year in prison for a moving violation that caused death. Margaret Pittman, 50, was killed after trying to grab the driver side door handle of VanPutten’s car. She accelerated and travelled over PIttman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial accident happened when VanPutten pulled out of her East Paris Avenue driveway and was struck by a vehicle driven by a 31-year-old man.
