GRAND RAPIDS, Mich – A man accused of pouring boiling water onto police officers was taken into custody after a 5 hour standoff.

It happened Friday night at about 9:30 p.m. and led into the early morning hours on Saturday.

It all began when the Grand Rapids Police Department received a call that a man was pouring gasoline into a sewer on Kendall Street, located the southeast side of the city.

Police said witnesses reported that Robbie Harris left, but later returned with a propane tank.

When authorities arrived on the scene they said Mr. Harris fled into a home, where he got a hold of some boiling water. That’s when police said he doused the officers.

Neighbors were cautioned to stay inside as police barricaded the area until eventually taking the suspect into custody at 3:10 a.m.

Authorities tell FOX 17 that Mr. Harris has some mental issues and that he’s been treated on three separated occasions.

The officers had only minor burns from that water.
