OSKALOOSA, Iowa– Three-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart is recovering in an Iowa hospital after breaking his leg.
Stewart, 42, was racing in a sprint car race Monday night at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa when he crashed. He reportedly suffered a broken right tibia and fibula and was transported to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery.
He will miss this week’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen, where Stewart has won five times.
Last week, Stewart was involved in another accident during the sprint car race at Ohsweken Speedway in Ontario, Canada. Stewart rolled his car five times, but he was uninjured.
There is no word on who will replace Stewart in this weekend’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International.
