TEKONSHA TOWNSHIP, Mich. — An 81-year-old man has died after the SUV he was driving rolled over on I-69 near Old 27.

It happened Aug. 5 at 11:53 p.m.

Calhoun County Sheriff’s Deputies found a 1997 Ford Explorer on its side in the median. The 81-year-old from Ohio was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 70-year-old female passenger, also from Ohio, was flown to an area hospital with critical injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office says the SUV was northbound on I-69 when it appeared to run off the road, and when re-entering the highway, the driver over corrected and flipped several times before landing in the median.

Both the driver and passenger were wearing seat belts and speed and alcohol are not factors.

The accident remains under investigation.
