COVERT TOWNSHIP, Mich. — More than two dozen workers at the Palisades Nuclear Plant in Van Buren County will be laid-off.

According to The Advocate in Louisiana, Entergy — the company that owns Palisades — is laying off 800 workers nationally.  Nearly one-third of the layoffs will happen in Louisiana, where the company is headquartered.

Here in Michigan, there are approximately 30 people who stand to lose their jobs.

The job cuts were part of the company’s second-quarter earnings report, which showed that Entergy is struggling to meet performance expectations.  Eliminating the jobs will save Entergy $200 million to $250 million by 2016.
