East Kentwood Teacher Dies Following Washtenaw County Crash

WASHTENAW COUNTY, Mich — Less than twelve hours after her death, current and former students of a local high school teacher are honoring her memory.

Bonnie Brush, 43, of Grand Rapids, was involved in a deadly rollover crash along US-23 in Ann Arbor Township Sunday afternoon.  Brush, an English teacher at East Kentwood High School, was killed in the accident.

Multiple students have taken to social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook to offer their condolences late Sunday evening.  Brush recently participated in a school-wide lipdub video(She appears at 6:19 into the video.)

Students are working to organize a candlelight vigil for later this week.

Brush was traveling northbound in the left lane of US-23 at around 12:20 p.m. when her vehicle went onto the left shoulder when entering a curve along the road, according to the Michigan State Police.

Troopers believe she over-corrected, swerved to the right, and lost control of the vehicle, which rolled several times in the median.

Brush was taken to St. Joseph Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.  Investigating state troopers said Brush was wearing a seat belt.
