Indianapolis, Ind. — Three people died and two dozen were injured after a bus crash in Indianapolis, Saturday afternoon.

Authorities said parishioners from Colonial Hill Baptist Church were on board the bus. They left Camp Cobeac earlier in the day. The camp is in Prudenville, Michigan.

Witnesses said the bus overturned after exiting I-465.

Thirty-seven people were on board.  The injured were taken to four different area hospitals. Their conditions range from stable to serious. Six people have since been treated and released. First responders from several departments rushed to the scene.

A hazmat unit was called in to clean up a diesel spill caused by the accident.

Meantime, the passenger’s family members gathered at Colonial Hill Baptist Church waiting to hear updates on their loved ones.

Camp Cobeac issued the following statement:

“We wanted to let our supporting churches and friends know that Colonial Hills Baptist Church had an accident on their way back from camp this afternoon. Three adults passed away, and over 20 other teens and adults have been hospitalized. We are grieved for the loss these families are experiencing and are grateful for the opportunity we had to minister to and get to know them this past week.”

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
