YPSILANTI, Mich. — A Michigan couple is in trouble with the law after purchasing an abandoned storage unit that contained child pornography.
According to WJBK in Detroit, Tyrique Wilkerson and his fiance, Shavon Henry, recently purchased the storage unit in Ypsilanti.
Just like the television show ‘Storage Wars,’ the two wanted to make extra money. So, they recently started bidding on abandoned storage units hoping to find a hidden treasure.
“We found jewelry, all kinds of things,” said Henry. “You take your chances and go out and spend some money.”
They say they also found child porn among the contents.
“Started noticing odd things, such as bins full of children’s panties and disgusting pictures of little girls in little lingerie outfits,” added Henry.
Henry claims they alerted the storage center and threw away as much of the child pornographic material they could find, brought the rest of the bins home, and then, found more.
They didn’t call police, but that didn’t stop officers from showing up at their door.
“We were coming to bring the stuff to the police station and before we could do that they were at our door, kicking in my door,” said Henry. “I was sleeping. I get woken up by two officers pulling me out of my own bed.”
Wilkerson was arrested for possessing child pornography, and now, Henry is speaking out.
“I can’t believe they won’t listen. I’m heartbroken right now. They won’t even give him a chance to explain himself. I’m going crazy. I have to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a lawyer that we don’t have, to get him out of these charges. This isn’t fair.”
Ypsilanti Police aren’t saying much, only that they are in the middle of a sensitive investigation.
A spokesperson for the storage company says the unit did belong to someone else who abandoned it. They say they had no idea it was going on, because the previous owner created a wall in the unit that concealed the child pornography.
