NORTON SHORES, Mich. -Friends, family and strangers all came together for a community wide day of prayer for Jessica Heeringa and her family.
On Tuesday, Bridge Bible Church in Norton Shores opened its doors to anyone who wanted to stop by and pray for the Heeringa and her family. Prayer organizer, Nancy Harriman, said she hopes people will remember Jessica.
“I want that family to know the community stands behind you and that they care about you,” Harriman said about the Heeringa’s. “You’re not alone.”
With heads lowered in prayer, one by one, people walked into the church. All of them, sending their own personal message to Jessica and her family.
“I’m asking God to show us where she is,” Barb Yates, a woman who attends the church said. ” To protect her if she is here.”
It’s been nearly three months since police said Jessica was abducted from the Exxon Mobil where she worked. Within a matter of days, her name spread throughout West Michigan. Her face was shown on buildings and vehicles across the state. To this day, the community in Norton Shores, wants her family to know they haven’t forgotten.
“We all hurt. We’re all hurting when someone has been taken from our community like this,” Harriman said. “I’m praying for her to come back safely. I am praying for peace for her family.”
Norton Shores Police Chief Daniel Shaw said his team continues to work on this investigation.
“I think that we can solve this case and we will solve the case,” he said. “There is someone out there that knows where Jessica is at. They know the person that took her. I think all we need is for that person to come forward.”
Shaw said his team has not forgotten Heeringa, saying that his crews are still losing sleep over the investigation.
“It’s minimal for what the family is going through,” he said. “We’re still working to bring resolution to the family.”
Until then, Harriman said, she will keep praying.
“I’m praying for her little son who has no mother,” she said.
