GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The trial of Willie Lee Wilson Williams, the man accused of strangling a jail guard at the Kent County Correctional Facility last September, began Tuesday afternoon.

Williams is charged with assault with intent to murder after allegedly ambushing and attacking the female guard.  He was also convicted of armed robbery July 18 for a separate crime. He was pulled off the guard by another inmate, Antonio Brown, who was then rewarded by having the remainder of his prison sentence revoked.
