GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — It’s often said that pigs like to roll in the mud to stay cool, but why bother when you can have a slice of watermelon at the beach, as in the above photo sent by Ted Mosies of Rockford?
West Michigan will have to deal with one more very similar day of heat and humidity Thursday before changes start to arrive for the end of the week.
Like Wednesday afternoon, temperatures will climb back into the low 90s Thursday afternoon, with heat index readings around 100°. The heat and humidity will again be likely to trigger a few scattered thunderstorms, mainly away from Lake Michigan.
Friday, a cold front dropping in from the north will generate scattered showers and thunderstorms, some of which may become severe depending on the timing of the storms. The greatest threats would be damaging wind gusts and possibly large hail.
The front will clear out of the region by Saturday morning, allowing more seasonable and comfortable air to filter into West Michigan.
