CONVIS TWP, Mich — Deputies with the Calhoun County Office of the Sheriff found four malnourished pit bull dogs at a foreclosed, vacant home.

On Tuesday, July 16, they were called to the residence in the 12,000 block of Bellevue Road in Convis Township for an animal cruelty complaint. Deputies found four “severely emaciated” pit bulls inside the home, which was littered with feces, according to a media release.

The previous occupant, a 40-year-old Battle Creek woman, admitted the dogs were hers. She said she gave the dogs food and water once a week.

Calhoun County Animal Control then took those dogs to the Irwin Avenue Veterinary Hospital in Albion, and the prosecutor’s office is seeking a warrant for animal cruelty.

The suspect’s name is not being released at this time.
