GRAND RAPIDS, Mich — The Board of Education has approved laying off 106 teachers from Grand Rapids Public Schools.

The layoffs were approved Monday evening, July 15, as part of the district’s transformation plan. More layoffs are also expected in other areas, such as administration, public safety and youth advocates.

However, some teachers could be brought back, because the district expects up to 50 teachers to retire.
