GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — As the family of Shanetta Franklin mourns her loss, there are still more questions than answers in her shooting death over the weekend.

Detectives say they’re having a hard time tracking down who’s responsible for killing the 26-year-old mother on Brown Street Sunday morning.

Franklin was shot in front of the home of India Bivens, who found her bleeding on the ground.

“Shanetta, she was laying down here on the ground, shot in her chest,” Bivens said.  By the time crews arrived it was too late; the mother of three was dead.

Bivens says the fatal shooting made her decide it was time to move.

Franklin’s youngest sister, Georginia, says she’s devastated by the loss.

“That was my bestie, and everybody knew that since she moved here, you see me you see her,” she said.

Georgina and other family members are now caring for Franklin’s children, who are between the ages of three and nine.

They say they want Shanetta to be remembered as a loving mother with a beautiful smile, but won’t have closure until her murderer is caught.

Anyone with information on the shooting death of Shanetta Franklin should call the Grand Rapids Police Department or the Silent Observer Tip Line 616-774-2345.
