LILLEY TOWNSHIP,Mich. — One suspect is in Newaygo County Jail after animal control deputies found 10-14 dead kittens located in a freezer along with a fawn and one deceased cat in the yard. . During an investigation, it was learned that the occupants of this residence may have been practicing veterinary services without a license. In all 50-60 cats, 1 dog, 2 rabbits and 1 baby skunk were seized from the property (suspects had planned to descent the skunk). Most animals were found to have inadequate food and water and some appeared to be sick. All seized animals were taken to the Newaygo County Animal Shelter where they will be evaluated by a veterinarian and provided with proper medical treatment as needed.
One suspect is currently in the Newaygo County Jail where he is facing multiple charges including animal abandoning and cruelty; health profession unauthorized practice and multiple other charges.
The second suspect has been released on bail. Both suspects are due to be formally charged in the 78th District Court on Thursday, July 18, 2013.
