KALAMAZOO, Mich. — About 100 gallons of raw sewage overflowed from a sanitary sewer Friday.
At 3:15 p.m. Friday, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Services was notified about water seeping out of a manhole in an easement behind a residence at 415 Homecrest Ave. An investigation identified the water as untreated raw sewage that was being released to the immediate area around the sanitary sewer manhole.
Public Services employees removed a blockage and restored flow in the sewer at 12:30 a.m. Saturday.
The amount of material discharged from the sanitary sewer was estimated to be about 100 gallons.
As required by law, the city of Kalamazoo notified the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and Kalamazoo County Environmental Health and Community Services of the spill.
