GRANDVILLE, Mich. — Several people were injured when a van rolled over on Interstate 196 at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

The Michigan State Police responded to the accident on westbound I-196 near Market after a minivan rolled over several times and entered a wooded area.

Police told FOX 17 NEWS that the van had 10 occupants — both adults and children — and “appeared to be over-occupied.” They said the vehicle was in the right lane, attempted to move over to the left when the driver realized that there was a vehicle there, jerked the steering wheel back into the right lane and overcorrected, causing the van to leave the roadway, roll over several times down an embankment and enter the woods.

Several people were hurt in the crash, including multiple children, with injuries ranging from serious to minor. The injured were transported to both Spectrum Butterworth and St. Mary’s hospitals in Grand Rapids.

Police said none of the injuries were life threatening.

The interstate’s westbound lanes were closed to traffic intermittently while emergency personnel worked at the scene.

FOX 17 NEWS has a crew on the scene and will provide updates as they become available.
