MUSKEGON, Mich. — A 27-year old man was shot and killed in Muskegon, Tuesday night. Muskegon police say a 27-year old woman was also shot in the head during the same incident.
It happened in the 300 block of Monroe Avenue. Investigators were on the scene well into the night.
“[The female victim] was an innocent bystander. That bothered me because there’s children out here playing, and there shouldn’t be shooting,” Jeanette Moore, a Muskegon resident said. Police are still looking into what led up to the shooting, but people at the scene told FOX 17 that the man who was killed hadn’t been home long before the shooting occurred. He was driven to the hospital by a private vehicle before first responders arrived.
Witnesses told FOX 17 the woman was trying to protect her kids during the commotion when she was shot in the head. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital. Police say she was rushed into surgery and is listed in critical condition.
Police aren’t releasing their names until next of kin has been notified. Residents just want the violence to end.
“Life is precious, that’s something you can’t get up from. It’s not a movie. It’s real,” Moore said.
