MUSKEGON, Mich.– A group of church students are on a mission.
After seeing the devastation an EF5 tornado did to Moore, Oklahoma in late May, the students from Life Change Church in Muskegon are determined to help rebuild that community. They are planning a week-long trip to Moore this month.
“I was just waiting for an opportunity to go,” said student, Candace Sifuentes.
That opportunity is now. But the trip will cost each student $400.
About 25 students are planning to head to Moore on July 21st. To raise money for their trip, the students held a car wash today.
“This car wash is really what we’re relying on,” said student, Alex Kirksey.
The students will meet up with a group from Colorado. While a lot of people have gone to the tornado-ravaged neighborhoods in Moore to clean up debris, this group has a different mission.
“We`re actually going to rebuild what was lost,” said Kirksey. “Building homes and dry walling, painting and building what people lost.”
They say they have no idea what to expect when they get there.
“We`re going to be there to support them, to love on them and to just show them that we care and that it`s not something we just overlook,” said Kirksey.
The group plans to stay until July 26th. If you would like to help out by donating, you can do so directly with Life Change Church.
