Griffins Lose Top Defenseman To Calgary

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich- Chad Billins who helped the Grand Rapids Griffins to their first ever Calder Cup Championship has sign a one year, two-way deal with the Calgary Flames according to the Calgary Flames website.

The deal gives the the Flames the flexibility to move him back and forth between the NHL and AHL affiliate, the Abbotsford Heat.

Billins led all Griffins defenseman in scoring last season with 37 points (10 goals) and made the all-star team. He also led all AHL defenseman in playoff scoring  with 14 points (2 goals).

Joakim Andersson, Gustav Nyquist, and Brendan Smith have been offered qualifying contracts by the Detroit Red Wings.
