Grand Rapids Shooting Suspect Charged With January Murder

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH.  — Seventeen-year-old Devonte Warren has been charged with the January shooting death of Gregory Woods, Jr., according to Grand Rapids Police.

Woods was shot multiple times in the 700 block of Neland SE after he answered a knock on the door.  He was transported to a local hospital by a private party and about a week later died in the hospital.

Warren is from the Grand Rapids area and has been in custody since January on charges of Assault with intent to murder, armed robbery and perjury.  He was charged with murder Friday afternoon after a six-month investigation from the Grand Rapids Police Major Case Team and Kent County Prosecutor’s Office.

No bond was set for Warren, and his next court hearing is July 19.
