GENEVA TOWNSHIP, Mich. — An 18-year-old woman was killed after being struck by a vehicle on 68th Street at 12:11 a.m. Friday morning.

According to the Van Buren Sheriff’s Department, Chicago woman Ayala Shulman was struck by another 18-year-old, Kalamazoo resident Charles Carrigan, after he swerved to miss another woman while trying to locate the M-43 Highway on his GPS.  He struck Shulman while she and the other woman were walking in the road near the center line.

Sheriffs say he was traveling well under the 55 mph speed limit, and Shulman was wearing black clothing.  There was light fog in the area.  His case is currently under review by prosecutors, who will determine if any charges will be filed.
