Officers Smell Smoke; Find House on Fire

Posted

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Crews were called to the scene of a house fire after Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers who were on a routine patrol smelled smoke in the area of North Westnedge Avenue.

When the officers smelled the smoke around 3:30 a.m., more were called to the area to try to find the source. They searched for several minutes in police cars and on foot, and eventually came to a home in the 1400 block of North Westnedge.

A fire truck arrived once the fire was confirmed. It was contained to the first floor of the home and was extinguished quickly.

No one was inside when public safety officers went into the house. Traffic on North Westnedge was shut down for about an hour while crews knocked down the fire, and completed salvage and overhaul operations.

No injuries were reported, and the fire is still under investigation.
