MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — An undercover police officer posed as a killer, and busted a man who tried to hire him to kill his estranged wife.

Michigan State Police in Mount Pleasant received information from a number of sources that a 45-year-old man from Barryton was looking for someone to kill his wife.  The man was introduced to the undercover officer on June 25.  At that time, he offered to pay the officer for the killing.

The following day, the Mecosta County Prosecutor’s Office authorized charges of Solicitation for Murder, Solicitation for Kidnapping, Solicitation for Home Invasion, and Solicitation for Delivery of a Controlled Substance.  The maximum penalty for these charges could be life in prison.

The man is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday.
