HOLLAND, Mich.– The two people charged in the hit and run death of an Ottawa County father waived their preliminary hearing today.

Twenty-six-year-old Jeremie Collins and 22-year-old Maly Phongsavanh are both charged with leaving the scene of a serious injury/ death accident. They were driving separate vehicles. Investigators say the two were speeding when they came around the corner of Ottawa Beach Road in Park Township, and hit 24-year-old Josh Owens in late March.

According to Owens’ friends, he was out celebrating his wife’s birthday with family and friends. He was crossing the street to get to an ATM to withdraw money for a cab when he was hit. Both vehicles left the scene.

Collins’ family was in court but did not want to talk about the case. He and Phongsavanh are both out on bond.

The case now heads to circuit court. Their next court appearance has not been set.
