CEDAR SPRINGS, Mich. — A 2 1/2 year-old boy was killed in a car crash Tuesday after being ejected from his car seat at the intersection of Myers Lake Avenue and 17 Mile Road near Cedar Springs.

According to the Kent County Sheriff’s Department, a truck driven by 65-year-old Howard City man John Heeringa ran the stop sign heading northbound on Myers Lake Avenue.  He crashed into an SUV driven by 33-year-old Paula Zuniga, the mother of the deceased boy.

There were also two other children in the SUV, one 3 1/2 and the other 1 1/2 years old.  They were also injured and transported to Helen Devos Children’s Hospital.

Alcohol was not involved with the crash and it remains under investigation, according to sheriffs.
