GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — The Coast Guard rescued a 3-year-old boy Friday after station personnel heard cries for help at the west end of the boat basin in Grand Haven.

Upon arriving at the scene, rescue crews discovered four people trying to assist the boy.  The Coast Guard received additional reports from witnesses that the boy had fallen from the east basin at Escanaba Park after losing his balance.  He sustained head injuries during the fall.

Coast Guard personnel kept the boy conscious while waiting for emergency medical responders, who transported the boy to North Ottawa Hospital.  His condition is unknown at this time.  The four people attempting to rescue him did not require any medical assistance.

The press release from the Coast Guard did not mention the whereabouts of the boy’s guardians. His identity is not being released.
