ALLEGAN.,Mich. — The Allegan County Health Department is lifting the Public Health Advisory against swimming at West Side County Park Thursday June 20. The advisory was issued Tuesday, June 18,2013, based on sample results for samples collected on Monday, June 17, 2013. The sample results from Monday, June 17, 2013, revealed 329.42 E. coli colonies per 100 milliliters (ml) of water. The standard for total body contact for Michigan bathing beaches is 300 colonies of E. coli per 100 ml. Samples were collected on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, after the Advisory was issued and the following results were received this morning: West Side County Park 4.92 colonies per 100 ml E. coli.
Based on these results, the Public Health Advisory against swimming at West Side County Park is being lifted. Monitoring of the six public beaches on Lake Michigan will continue on a weekly basis through the week of Labor Day.
