GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- Thousands piled into Van Andel Arena Wednesday, lining up around the building to be a part of the Calder Cup celebration.

Fans young and old heard from coaches and players as they celebrated the first AHL championship in franchise history.

Some fans said that the playoffs were an emotional roller coaster but that only makes the victory more exciting.  They say it means big things for the franchise and the city.

The Griffins season started with only a few thousand fans attending the games and ended up with more than 10,000 by the playoff games.  Those are numbers the team hopes to carry over into next year.
