ALPINE TOWNSHIP, Mich.- Police have arrested two men they believe are connected to at least three break-ins along North Division Sunday morning.
Damone Hammock and Brandon Cook of Sparta came face-to-face with two people in the neighborhood.
One victim, Lee Stanley, claims he caught Cook in the act.
“He slammed the door, ran across the front and went out the side door,” Stanley said.
He says he chased after Cook with a four-foot metal pole, but he was already gone.
K-9 units later found a backpack with a Family Fare card registered to one of the suspects.
Both Hammock and Cook have lengthy criminal records, including home invasion. Victims believe their plan was to ride into town on bikes, steal from several homes then leave the stolen property in the woods where they could later pick them up.
Both suspects are being held in the Kent County Jail on $100,000 bond.
