ALBION, Mich. – A dog was saved Saturday night after being trapped inside a basement during a devastating house fire.
According to the Albion Department of Public Safety, the fire happened at 502 East Michigan Avenue a little before 5 p.m.
When officers arrived, home owners told them their dog was stuck in the basement.
Heavy smoke was coming from the first floor of the home and quickly spread to the second floor and attic with firefighters unable to pull the ceiling off to quickly extinguish the fire.
Officers were able to locate the dog and hook up oxygen to the pet with assistance from paramedics. The dog was saved, but the house was a total loss.
One firefighter received minor burns and was treated by paramedics on the scene.
The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time, but started in the living room area and appeared to not be suspicious in nature.
