GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — After two failed attempts to clinch the Calder Cup on their home turf, the Grand Rapids Griffins hit the road in a much different-looking series.
A night after losing 3-2 to the Syracuse Crunch, the Griffins lost 5-2 in Game 5 of the series, closing their series lead to 3-2 and sending the fight for the Cup back to Syracuse.
Ondrej Palat and Brett Connolly both found the net in the first period for the Crunch to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
Tristan Grant cut the lead in half just before the end of the first period.
Tomas Tatar tied the game at 2 with a second period goal, but Syracuse closed the game with three straight goals.
Game 6 is Tuesday at 7:10 p.m.
