KENTWOOD, Mich. — The one-and-a-half-year-old boy found in a pond at Old Farm Shores Park was pronounced dead after arriving at DeVos Children’s Hospital Thursday afternoon, according to a news release from Kentwood Police.

Shamon Gant-Hayes is believed to have fallen into the pond on the south side of the park after wandering away from two young brothers who were allegedly watching him, one seven and the other nine years old.

He was pulled out of the water by a Kentwood Recreation Department staff member, who performed CPR on him until he was transported to DeVos Children’s Hospital via ambulance.  Police have confirmed that the cause of death was accidental drowning.
