Grand Rapids, Mich. — The sales of tickets at The Zone in the Van Andel Arena have nearly tripled over the past week.
Zone Manager Logan Hollow said they typically sell 400 tickets a day, this week they are averaging 1,000 per day.
The Van Andel Arena can hold more than 10,000 for the Griffins championship playoff games.
Hollow said as of Tuesday afternoon, they had sold more than 8,000 tickets for Wednesday’s championship game.
For Friday’s game, they had already sold nearly 10,000.
He predicted the game Friday would be a sell-out.
Fans were lined up all day at The Zone Monday and Tuesday to purchase tickets.
“I love the playoffs. I love hockey. I love grand rapids too. I just love this,” said Matt Kuipers, Griffins fan.
Fans are also eager to get the Calder Cup playoff tee shirts.
Fan Shaine McKenna said he would pick his shirt up as soon as possible.
“My dad was an offense official for the Griffins for the first 8 years,” said McKenna.
Hollow said those shirts should be ready for sale Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
They had just gotten a shipment of around 400 shirts into the store Tuesday afternoon.
“It takes a couple of days to make this many shirts. But, we can also have them the next today, which is pretty cool,” said Hollow.
Hollow said they were expecting championship pucks, foam fingers and other souvenirs to come in sometime before the puck drops at Wednesday night’s game.
