GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A 33-year-old Grand Rapids man was sentenced to 19 years in prison for committing two armed bank robberies in the area in May 2012.
According to a press release from the Department of Justice, Williams robbed the PNC Bank on Lake Eastbrook Boulevard and the Fifth/Third Bank located on Chicago Drive before being apprehended after a failed attempt to rob the same PNC location a second time.
Employees at that bank saw Williams approaching dressed in a dark, hooded sweatshirt and wearing a dark mask and gloves and locked the door before calling police. After a short chase, Williams and his getaway driver, Rosheda Durham, were taken into custody. She is currently serving a one-year sentence.
In addition to the 19-year sentence ordered by U.S. District Judge Robert J. Jonker, Williams was also ordered to pay almost $44,000 in restitution for the robberies.
