KALAMAZOO, Mich. — One of the two men convicted of murdering 74-year-old Kalamazoo antique shop owner Robert Medema was sentenced to life in prison Monday.
In addition to the life sentence, John Aguilar was also sentenced to an additional combined sentence of 60 to 150 years for two counts of armed robbery in the same case.
On May 10, Aguilar was convicted of felony murder, open murder and first-degree home invasion for the the August 2012 crimes.
According to Kalamazoo County Circuit Court Judge Richardson Johnson, he maintained his innocence during the sentencing. The other man convicted of the crimes, Antonio Livingston, was sentenced to life in prison in March.
