Fatal Hit-and-Run Motorcycle Crash; Alcohol Involved

A man died Sunday in Barry County when a pickup truck backing out of a driveway struck his motorcycle. Police are seeking the driver of the pickup.

Michigan State Police Troopers were dispatched around 4:40 p.m. to M-43 near Cloverdale Road in Hope Township Sunday afternoon.  They found that the rider had been thrown into oncoming traffic and was hit by another vehicle.  The male victim has not been identified.

The suspect vehicle fled the scene and has not been located.  Alcohol is believed to have been a factor.

Police have identified the suspected driver as Tobias John Bowers, 39.  He is described as white, approximately 5’11” and 225 pounds.  He was last seen wearing blue shorts, a gray t-shirt, and black boots.

His vehicle is a 1991 Dodge Dakota pickup truck that is either tan or brown in color with the license plate CPH 2806.  Bowers is believed to have relatives in the Kalamazoo area.
