HASTINGS, Mich. — Elvin Kizziar, a man who drove without a license during a crash that killed his wife, is expected to be sentenced on Thursday.

In December 2012, Kizziar was behind the wheel with his wife, Melissa Jo Ulferts, in the passenger seat.

A family friend said Ulferts was afraid to drive in the weather conditions, so Kizziar drove instead. He lost control on Cressey Road in Plainwell, and crashed into a tree. Ulferts was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kizziar will be sentenced in Hastings for operating without a license causing death.
