KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A dedication ceremony is planned for Wednesday, to unveil the highly-anticipated memorial for fallen Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer Eric Zapata.
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. at the memorial site, which is in the downtown Kalamazoo Mall, next to the Radisson Plaza Hotel. There, project partners will unveil a PSO Zapata bronze bust and memorial garden. Renditions of the bronze sculpture and the memorial garden can be viewed here.
The bronze bust, which will stand in the middle of the garden, was completed a few months ago by artist Brent Harris of the Alchemist Sculpture Foundry.
Zapata was killed in the line of duty on April 18, 2011. He was 35 years old.
Wednesday’s event is free and open to the public, with everyone invited to attend the service & unveiling.
