GRAND RAPIDS, Mich — Firehouse Subs’ Public Safety Foundation will pay it forward to the Grand Rapids Fire Department Tuesday with a donation worth more than $18,500.
The sandwich store will give out 1,000 lithium-battery smoke detectors and fire safety education materials at 2:30 p.m. at their restaurant, located at 2090 Celebration Drive. Firefighters will demonstrate the use of the smoke detectors and explain the Residential Safety Program that aims to reduce fires in high-risk neighborhoods.
The donated smoke detectors will allow the GRFD to outfit 200 homes with five smoke detectors each.
The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has been around since 2005, and donated $6.3 million to hometown heroes, including more than $44,600 in Michigan.
