SIDNEY TOWNSHIP, Mich. — 34-Year-Old Sean Bylsma was sentenced on Thursday to 14-months to 3-Years in prison. Bylsma pleaded guilty to fleeing police and being an habitual offender.
Montcalm County Sheriff’s Deputies say the Comstock Park man refused to stop when signaled after his 1994 Chevrolet Suburban was observed with heavy front end damage.
Deputies’ investigation revealed that the suspect had hit a tree with his vehicle while he was allowing his four-year old son to sit on his lap and drive unrestrained.
Bylsma received a minor injury from the crash but the boy was not hurt and turned over to a relative.
A Montcalm County Deputy pursued the suspect after a short pursuit to his mother’s home on South Nevins Road in Sidney Township. At the home, the suspect refused to comply with the Deputy’s orders and a fight started, resulting in the Deputy having minor injuries.
