OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — A jury Friday afternoon found a Holland Township man guilty of first-degree murder for killing his landlord by pouring an accelerant on her and setting her on fire.

The 20th Circuit Court jury returned the verdict against 32-year-old Davanh Phouangphet after several days of testimony before Judge Jon Hulsing.

In January 2012, Phouangphet was living with landlord Kim Le and others at Le’s home on West Pine Lane in Ottawa County’s Holland Township. Another tenant testified that on Jan. 23 he was awakened by Le screaming and saw her in flames.

Le suffered severe burns and died on Jan. 29, 2012.

Phouangphet is scheduled to receive a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole when he is sentenced at a later date.
