5.9 RED WINGS

ANAHEIM, Calif — The Detroit Red Wings hoped to take the series lead against the Ducks Wednesday night, with each team at two wins.

Johan Franzen scored in the first period to put the Red Wings ahead, but Kyle Palmieri of the Ducks answered with another goal.

It was the same in the second period, as each team added on another point (Mikael Samuelsson for Detroit and Ryan Getzlaf for Anaheim). The third period was scoreless, so the teams entered into overtime.

With 1:54 into overtime, Nick Bonino of the Ducks scored the game winner.

It’s now down to the wire for the Red Wings, who must win game six in Hockeytown. That’s scheduled for Friday night at 8.
