2 Critical After Kalamazoo County Accident

Posted

OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Two people were critically injured in a one-vehicle alcohol-related crash Thursday evening.

At 5:37 p.m. Thursday, the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an accident with injuries at South Eighth Street and West ML Avenue in Oshtemo Township. Deputies said a vehicle was southbound on South Eighth at a very high rate of speed when the driver apparently lost control and the vehicle slid off the roadway and struck a tree.

One occupant was thrown out and the other was trapped inside the vehicle. The driver — a 33-year-old Kalamazoo man — and a passenger — a 25-year-old Kalamazoo woman — both were transported to the hospital where they were listed in critical condition later Thursday.

Deputies said alcohol was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office.
